The National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) http://www.usta.com/GetInvolved/NJTL.aspx was established by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, to provide urban youth with low or no cost programs to develop character and teach life skills through tennis.
As part of its effort to promote youth tennis education in Chicago, NJTL has granted “official chapter” status to Love To Serve. As a Midwest Section NJTL chapter, Love To Serve has worked with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) to implement a nationally recognized after-school tennis program.
As participants in a NJTL sponsored program, students from selected Chicago Public Schools meet after-school, three days a week with a certified CPS teacher and a tennis teaching pro. The program offers a host of additional activities including homework assistance, tutoring and life skills training. Awareness of the health benefits of exercise, fitness, and healthy eating habits are also at integral components of the program.
Additionally, program participants meet two Saturday’s per month at the Love To Serve Academic Center to participate in career exploration workshops conducted by respected community, civic, and business leaders. Tennis practice is conducted at a professional tennis facility, and participation in cultural and educational field trips is also offered on selected weekends.
“Love To Serve is one of our premier NJTL Capacity Building Chapters and we are fortunate to have them as a partner organization. They continue to exceed our expectations in the delivery of youth programming in Chicago."

After School Matters (ASM)
ASM is a non-profit organization that partners with the City of Chicago, the Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Park District, and the Chicago Public Library to expand out-of-school opportunities for Chicago teens. Working together, these institutions help to revitalize Chicago neighborhoods and enrich the lives of teens around the city.
Through ASM programs, Chicago teens can safely take part in activities that offer positive relationships, skills that t rans late to the workplace, and exposure to career and educat ional opportunities both in thei r neighborhoods and throughout the city.
ASM focuses on two core areas of programming that help teens build skills for the future: apprenticeships and club activities. To help satisfy those program objectives, Love To Serve Tennis Education and Foundation not only provides the ASM program with a tennis club environment, but it also offers young people the opportunity to apprentice as tennis coaches and officiators.
